The CW presents its 2017-18 primetime schedule to advertisers, affiliates, and national media today at the New York City Center in New York City, with the multi-platinum, multi-Grammy Award-winning rock band Muse opening the show with the worldwide debut performance of their new single, Dig Down! To make room for their unveiling, the network has relocated some of its veterans.
The CW will be moving its superhero drama Arrow to Thursday nights at 9 p.m. when the series returns for Season 6 this fall.
Valor, a military drama, will air at 9 p.m. on Mondays after Supergirl. Now set to air Fridays at 9/8c, the critically-acclaimed Gina Rodriguez show will be reunited with its former Monday night companion Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which moves to a new time slot at 8/7c. Could Jane the Virgin's move to Friday help or hurt the show? Christina Ochoa and Matt Barr star as two U.S. Army helicopter pilots who must return overseas to help rescue their comrade (W. Tre Davis) from terrorists, all while being torn between their duty and desire for each other, of course. Pedowitz said he has been trying to find a military-themed show for many years.
"We will have a slightly different take, because we are The CW", he said.
One potential challenge with "Dynasty" is marketing the nighttime soap to a new generation of viewers. It comes from executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the team behind "Gossip Girl" and "The O.C". Also, it has the blessing of creators Richard and Esther Shapiro; fills the same timeslot it had back on ABC in the '80s; and could even include some vets. Alas, Berlanti will only have five shows (!) on the network in the fall, with his newest offering, Black Lightning, being held until midseason, where Lucy Hale series Life Sentence will also bow.
