Dixon will start Sunday's race at the pole by averaging 232.164 miles per hour during qualifying.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police said they arrested two teenagers, ages 14 and 15, in connection with the robbery of credit cards and other personal valuables from Dixon, his wife, and Franchitti. The older suspect was also charged with resisting arrest.
Dixon was picking up food for a group of drivers, IndyCar driver Tony Kanaan told media. "You don't expect that to happen, especially here".
Dixon, 36, was with retired racer Dario Franchitti at the time of the incident and neither were hurt, the team added in a statement on Monday.
Kanaan led off the interview saying, "I was supposed to be with them".
Police responded to the robbery, found the suspects' vehicle. He was apprehended by a police dog.
"The victims stated 2 (black males) robbed them at gunpoint and fled north on Berwick (Avenue) on foot", the police report stated.
Scottish racing driver Dario Franchitti has been robbed at gunpoint at a Taco Bell drive-through restaurant in the US.
Chip Ganassi Racing announced today that the four-time Verizon IndyCar Series champion and 2008 Indy 500 victor will be sponsored by Camping World, the nation's largest recreational vehicle and outdoor retailer. Franchitti and Brazil's Helio Castroneves are the only foreign-born drivers to win the Indy 500 three times.
He will hope to capture his second Indy 500 victory after winning the race in 2008 when he also had pole position. He suffered a broken back and right ankle and a concussion in the crash.
