According to Reuters, Merkel said that everyone at the G7 summit table was urging Trump to stick with the pact. Trump also was impressed by their arguments about how crucial USA leadership is in supporting worldwide efforts. The internal G7 divisions and a suicide bombing in Britain on Monday, that killed 22, overshadowed the Italian agenda, but on Saturday five African leaders joined the world power leaders to discuss their continent's potential.
There is no evidence that money has begun to "pour in" - and countries do not pay the US or North Atlantic Treaty Organisation directly.
"The whole discussion on the topic of climate was very hard, not to say very unsatisfactory" Merkel said, as the two-day G7 summit of some of the world's wealthiest nations in the seaside town of Taormina, Sicily, drew to a close.
The White House team also asked the French president to be "precise" in his conversation with Trump, the French official said.
"The United States is evaluating its policy with regard to the climate, so the six other G7 countries will reaffirm their commitment (to the global Paris accord) while taking note" of the U.S. position, a French official said at the G7 summit in Sicily.
Mrs. Trump adds that she's very proud of how hard the president worked on the trip on behalf of the U.S.
Trump said he had helped forge more global cooperation in the fight against Islamist militants, a threat he said was underscored by a suicide bomber in Manchester, England, and the killing of Coptic Christians in Egypt.
He says: "President Trump should join these leaders in protecting Americans from the mounting impacts of climate change and reaping the economic benefits of the clean energy revolution, rather than trying to shore up the flagging fortunes of the polluting coal and oil industries".
Trump has delayed his final decision on the Paris Accord as he wants more time to decide whether the United States should pull out of the 195-nation agreement.
However Trump's position appeared to be addressed by new language in the final G-7 accord that said the member countries would be "standing firm against all unfair trade practices".
The German chancellor, who spoke to reporters in Sicily after the summit, said the discussion on climate change was quite different than the one that happened on trade.
"Mr. Trump is a pragmatist and I'm hopeful that once he considers all the arguments we made and in the interests of his country he will confirm his commitment", Macron said.
H.R. McMaster says Trump's support for Article 5 was "implicit in the speech".
This is Mr Trump's first G7 summit - during his first foreign trip.
Unlike other leaders, Mr Trump, who was sitting between the heads of state of Tunisia and Niger, did not put on headphones to listen to a simultaneous translation.
But Gary Cohn, the president's economic adviser, said the president had told his G7 colleagues that he regarded the environment as important. The president also raised eyebrows with his comment in a private meeting that Germans are "bad" for having a large trade surplus with the U.S.
Even before arriving in the picturesque Sicilian coastal town of Taormina for the G-7 summit, Trump was facing pressure on Paris during his trip.
