The Defense Ministry in Russian Federation says a similar incident happened earlier in the day on Tuesday with a Norwegian patrol plane, which also flew close to the country's border.
Report informs citing the Russian media that, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, the incident occurred this morning.
Once the United States plane was identified, Russian authorities made a decision to shadow the American bomber aircraft as a precautionary measure.
The ministry then went on to claim the Russian jet identified the plane as a US B-52 strategic bomber and escorted it until it flew further away from the border.

Having to scramble fighter jets to intercept the military aircraft of two different North Atlantic Treaty Organisation countries on the same day led to a strong reaction on part of the Russian Foreign and Defense Ministers.
U.S. Lt. Col. David Faggard, a spokesman for U.S. Forces Europe, said the B-52 was conducting a routine mission in worldwide airspace over the Baltic when it was intercepted by the Russian fighter.
Earlier this month, the US Air Force deployed B-52 bombers and 800 airmen to the United Kingdom in support of joint exercises with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies and partners that are taking place across Europe.
That came after multiple interactions near the coast of Alaska - where Russian warplanes were intercepted by US jets four times over a few weeks.
"The crew involved is still supporting the exercise".
The ministry said it had identified the Norwegian plane as an anti-submarine P-3 Orion aircraft and said it had switched off its transponder during the flight, the agencies reported.
"Such behavior does not deserve respect", said Deinekin, who said Russian Federation needed to establish what weaponry the B-52 was carrying.
A Russian Foreign Ministry official said the plane's appearance in Europe would not help ease tensions between the West and Russia.
