It's already a victory for America that members of Congress chose to go on with their charity baseball game a day after a shooting at a practice field in Alexandria, Virginia, left House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and a lobbyist in critical condition and three others injured.
The shooting happened in the 400 block of E Monroe Street, according to police.

It has been reported that there was little or no interaction with Scalise because he's in critical condition.
Members of Congress were practising for a baseball game that was scheduled for Thursday night at Nationals Park.
DeSantis said as he walked to his auto, a man asked him if it was Republicans or Democrats practising.
"Let us take pause and remember that we are all united by our love for this country and all of the values that it stands for", he said.
The congressional baseball match pits Republicans against Democrats.
Thompson offered his appreciation for the bravery of the U.S. Capitol Police.
Cassidy said medical staff will wait to fix Scalise's injuries from the shooting until after they stabilize his bleeding. "How dare they say such a thing", Pelosi said.
The mood at the Capitol remained somber Thursday, as members learned more about Scalise's condition and signed giant "get well" posters for him and others injured. "There are not enough relationship-building exercises between Republicans and Democrats".
Rep. Ron DeSantis told Fox News he left just before the shooting.
Former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre presented the game ball to Capitol Police special agent David Bailey, who came out on the field on crutches after being injured in Wednesday's shooting, to throw out the first pitch to huge applause. Democrats have won seven of the last eight games, bringing the overall series to an even 39-39-1 (the teams played multiple times in some years).
Matt Mika, a lobbyist for Tyson Foods, who was helping with practice during Wednesday's shooting, was also seriously wounded.
Aguilar plays outfield for the Democratic team; before the shooting, Scalise was slated to play second base for the Republicans. He was squeezing off five or six rounds at a time and, according to the report, fired about 50 shots in all. Gabby Giffords was shot in January 2011.
Following the Giffords shooting, lawmakers have held fewer open town halls and have been advised to increase security at such events.
