Rep. Steve Scalise, the third-highest-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives, is still in critical condition after undergoing his third surgery Thursday morning as a result of a gunshot wound to his hip.
"My prayer is we can resolve our differences in a way that furthers the preamble to the constitution takes us closer to E pluribus Unum", said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. "I have a feeling that Steve has made a great sacrifice".
Police chief of the suburban Alexandria County said though the suspect, identified as James T. Hodgkinson, a 66-year-old man from IL, was arrested, the motive had not been ascertained.
Also Wednesday in San Francisco, a man dressed in a UPS uniform and armed with an "assault pistol" opened fire at a United Parcel Service Inc. package sorting hub, killing three people before fatally shooting himself in the head, police said.
