Golden State's championship-clinching victory in Game 5 of the NBA Finals was watched by more than 25 million viewers on ABC, wrapping up the most-viewed series since Michael Jordan's last title in 1998. Every team in the league would do the same thing if given the opportunity, so it isn't as if the Warriors should be criticized for building a super team.
One narrative - that meshing an alpha talent like Durant with an already established team of dominant personalities would be hard - is laughed at by Golden State coach Steve Kerr.
Kerr said of Durant: "I'm just so happy for Kevin".
"I think there's just a lot of space to fill".
"I mean, come on, you've got a bunch of guys who are talented and can shoot and pass and dribble and they're unselfish; there was never any question in my mind that this was going to work". Cleveland would have had the momentum going into Game 6 back in Cleveland, putting the Warriors in a unsafe position.
But does it feel good to win with a stacked deck, or is it just a relief not to lose with one? "All the pieces that we have are important to the equation of winning a championship and competing for a championship every single year". "It's been about them proving that a year ago was a fluke, and K.D". This is a moment that we all need to enjoy together. "And they did that". Who needed to be a breakout player for the Cavs?
Warriors general manager Bob Myers, the architect responsible for bringing the pieces together, seemed to suggest Curry still sacrificed even after the Christmas Day revelation. David West fought for the ball with Irving, then they got tangled up and Tristan Thompson entered the fray and he and West went at each other face-to-face.
It's not Curry, the team's leader who had been apolitical publicly. "I agree with that description", Curry began, "if you remove the -et" from asset.
Kerr was hired as the Warriors' coach on May 19, 2014 and guided the team to a 67-15 regular-season record and an National Basketball Association championship in 2014-15. "So you have a clear sense of what matters when you go through that stuff".
If they get there, well, the only team left to overtake are Bill Russell's Celtics in the 1960s - a daunting 11 titles in 13 years. If fans are already moaning about the Warriors' dominance, here's the bad news: They are set to keep dominating for at least the next five years.
"Experience is the best teacher in life, and he's just experiencing and experiencing and experiencing", James said. "It's easier said than done obviously, but that's the goal".
"People did expect us to win, [but] people don't realize how hard it is to go out there and do it", Klay Thompson of Golden State said.
