Mr Met gives fan the finger, employee out as team mascot

The Mets apologized after Wednesday night's incident during a 7-1 loss to the Brewers, saying the offending employee won't work in the costume again. "We do not condone this type of behavior", the statement read. "We are dealing with this matter internally".
The New York Mets' season hasn't lived up to its promise with pitching struggles derailing a team tipped to compete for a place in the playoffs, and the pressure seems to have become too much for their mascot, Mr Met. The person spoke anonymously to the AP because the statement the Mets released on Twitter was their only authorized comment.
"Mr. Met was just upset, he got mad".

Mr. Met appeared on the field during Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Brewers though he was not that visible, and even fired T-shirts into the stands between innings.
An employee who used to dress up as Mr. Met was removed from mascot duty after someone tweeted footage of him flipping off some fans. More than one person dons the costume known for its oversized baseball head complete with the seams.
A pair of starting pitchers looking to build off the momentum they generated last weekend square off Thursday afternoon, when the Milwaukee Brewers visit the New York Mets in the finale of a four-game series at Citi Field.
"It didn't shock me the way that things are getting out there it doesn't surprise me at all", said Bryan, a gloating Yankee fan who suggested the team capitalizes on the incident by redesigning Mr. Met's hand to include a giant middle finger.
Of course, this all would've never happened with the first mascot for the Mets, back when they were an expansion team in 1962.
With Citi Field packed with schoolchildren for the matinee, Mr. Met kept a relatively low profile.

Chase Anderson pitched seven shutout innings and the Brewers benefited - temporarily, anyway - when a Milwaukee bat boy bumped into Mets infielder Wilmer Flores on a foul popup in a 2-1 victory over NY on Thursday.
Things didn't get any easier in the second inning for the Mets' ace. deGrom gave up a solo home run to Keon Broxton, stretching the Brewers' lead to 3-0.
Knebel struck out Jose Reyes and Jay Bruce to begin the ninth, and has fanned someone in all 27 of his games this year.
