Sekulow sidestepped Cuomo's charge, returning to his claim that the president's reasons for firing Comey can not be investigated given that the Federal Bureau of Investigation director serves at the pleasure of the president. Cuomo also challenged Sekulow's claim that the president is above legal reproach for obstruction of justice in his firing of Comey, noting that the question has never before been litigated.
Sekulow joined Trump's personal legal team, which includes Marc Kasowitz, Trump's go-to lawyer for years on both personal and business matters; Mark Bowe, who works with Kasowitz; and newly hired John Dowd, a well-known DC-based attorney.
"Is he reserving the right to fire everyone down the line?" a reporter asked.
"I want to be very clear about this, the president is not and has not been under investigation", Sekulow said and repeated throughout the day.
The reporter asked Spicer if Trump would keep firing Justice Department employees until he found someone willing to replace Mueller.
