U.S. News & World Report's methodology to determine the rankings is extensive and takes a close look at clinical outcomes, patient volume, infection control, staffing, best practices and more of each hospital.
The two hospitals, which affiliated in January 2014, rank best in the Bay Area in cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, neonatology, neurology and neurosurgery, and orthopedics, according to the magazine, which released the results of its report on June 27, 2017. Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital consistently keeps the patient and family at the center of care while continuing to expand its mission in treatment, research, education and advocacy.
Data collected and analyzed included survival rates for children who underwent surgery for serious congenital heart defects, infection rates in neonatal intensive care units, complications from kidney biopsies and other care outcomes.
The U.S News rankings listed Akron Children's Hospital among the top 50 hospitals for neonatology (35).
