Motorists in 94 Kansas communities are now enjoying average prices of $2 per gallon or less, AAA Kansas notes. Of the 10 regularly reported Kansas cities, eight saw price decreases in the past week, while prices in Hays rose by two cents per gallon and Manhattan remained flat. Three stations in the Largo area of Pinellas County were competing at $1.89. Experts said prices will start inching higher soon.
The number of people traveling by auto is expected to increase by 2.9 percent over this weekend last year, travelers reaching their destination by air is expected to increase 4.6 percent over last year, and all other modes of transportation (including trains, buses, and cruise ships) should increase by about 1.4 percent.
Gas price averages continued to remain stable throughout the islands as residents and visitors are anticipating the July 4 holiday, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Over the past two months now, prices are down by almost 15 cents, according to data provided by AAA.
Monday's national average of $2.23 is a penny lower than last week and 3 cents lower compared to the July 4 holiday a year ago.
AAA has more than 331,000 members in Kansas.
