Through this app, user can determine GST rate by entering the name of the commodity or service.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley launched a mobile app "GST Rates Finder" to help any person who has purchased a footwear or has been billed by a hotel to cross verify the correctness of the rate of GST charged.
The app is now available on Android platform but soon will be launched on Apple's iOS store. If the GST is a game changer then the "GST Rates Finder" mobile app would be a milestone in India's tax history.
CBEC chairperson Vanaja Sarna while launching GST app said, " the First app of its kind which would be a ready reckoner for the public, for customers, for consumers, traders, students, anyone who wishes to have very handily (GST) rates available.
Pointing out the other loophole in the GST system, the Congress leader said that "there is no GST for loose wheat flour and biscuits whereas the packaged ones are taxed".
The GST Council had brought in the 40 per cent tax slab so as to make a future GST rate hike possible and to avoid going to parliament again. "Now find out the correct rate of #GST on goods & services through a mobile app launched by @FinMinIndia", Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad tweeted. The Ministry said, the search result will list all the Goods and Services containing the name which was typed in the search box. GST, he said, is an example of cooperative federalism as the centre and states together thrashed out the new law with consensus.
Once downloaded, you will be able to see three catogories namely ' TAX rates: Goods", "TAX rates: Services' and Information @CBEC. The GST Rate Finder mobile app can be downloaded from Google Playstore.
Click on any of the item and a pop-up window will be displayed containing the GST rate of the item.
