RuneScape is a game that needs no introduction - ever since it redefined the Massively Multiplayer Online RPG genre upon its release in 2001, Jagex's fantasy opus has captivated an entire generation with its immersive yet accessible adventure action.
For starters, Jagex announced that mobile RuneScape players will be able to play with their PC counterparts. These are full-fledged mobile clients of the existing game, not a separate version. Jagex has made sure to make it cross-play so that you can play with your friends on PC as-well as mobile.
Both the mobile ports of Old School RuneScape and RuneScape 3 will have full cross-platform support, meaning that you can play with friends across both mobile devices and computers, as well as a "mobile-optimised interface", which will make it easier to play the game on your smartphone.
Jagex took to Twitter to announce that the long wait to be able to play RuneScape on your phone will finally be over in early 2018. This version still gets updates, but only if 75% of the community agrees on the proposed changes. It's astounding that the free-to-play title with an optional subscription has outlasted the competition.
And now, a new generation of players will have a chance to experience RuneScape in an entirely different way.
Mobile gaming, where the 2012 release Clash of Clans still tops the charts, is ideal for RuneScape's future.
