A chilling image has emerged of a man carrying a chainsaw in his gym bag moments before he used the weapon to go on the rampage through a Swiss town.
Two people injured were taken to a hospital for treatment, the police said.
Police stressed on Monday that the attack was not terror-related. But they warned he is still likely to be armed and could be a danger to the public.
In a statement, police warned "the suspect is unsafe", but said it was unclear whether he still had the chainsaw. He is also said to have had no fixed address and had reportedly has spent significant time living in a forest.
A man armed with a chainsaw, who injured 5 people in an apparent revenge attack on a Swiss health insurance company, is still on the run a day later.
A journalist in Schaffhausen, Marco Latzer, told CNN that helicopters also responded to the scene.
Revising earlier statements, police said one CSS employee was seriously injured and the other was slightly injured.
The town's historic old quarter was sealed off by a large deployment of officers who evacuated all nearby businesses and pedestrians, but the barricades were later removed and regular traffic returned to the area. Schaffhausen police released a photo of him taken before the incident on CCTV cameras. In recent weeks he was seen in the forests near Schaffhausen. They also put out an worldwide arrest warrant.
"This is a unsafe and aggressive man", the chief of security in Schaffhausen, Ravi Landoldt, was quoted by AFP as telling reporters.
"This was first and foremost a crime against this insurance agency", senior regional police official Ravi Landolt told reporters, though there was no exact word on the suspect's motive.
"The suspect targeted our company, he wanted to harm our employees", she said.
The manhunt involving roughly 100 police officers is being carried out by Schaffhausen authorities and supported by forces from Zurich as well as Germany, police said.
On Monday afternoon, police found the Volkswagen minivan with registration plates from Graubuenden that the suspect was believed to be driving.
