Essential founder Andy Rubin at the Wired Business Conference this year.
Essential president Niccolo De Masi recently spoke with The Wall Street Journal and said that we will all get an "exact date" for the Essential Phone's launch date next week. It's being sold through Amazon, Best Buy, Sprint, and Essential's own website.
"For all the good Android has done to help bring technology to almost everyone it has also helped create this weird new world where people are forced to fight with the very technology that was supposed to simplify their lives", wrote Rubin.
The company has now confirmed that the Essential Phone will be available at retail from Best Buy.
The phone's launch is delayed after Rubin, the creator of Google's Android, first promised a June release.
"Essential Products has a compelling vision and roadmap for connected devices that integrates voice technology in novel ways", Bernard said in the statement. But weeks before the phone goes on sale, Essential has had a huge boost that might just make this whole thing viable. It looks likely to face a similar design on the forthcoming iPhone 8, however, based on leaks, and other Android device makers are taking the cue and revealing screen-heavy prototypes with minimal bezels, so it'll be interesting to see how Essential positions itself with its go-to-market strategy once the phone is actually available. However, with Sprint as an exclusive partner in the USA and Telus in Canada, Essential may not have such a far-reaching impact - at least not this time around.
Access Technology Ventures, a venture-capital firm, led the latest investment round, which also included Australia's sovereign-wealth fund and tech investors Vy Capital and Altimeter.
