The game is dubbed, "the NBA London Game 2018", and will be a designated road game for the C's and a home game for the Sixers. "The NBA has done an exceptional job of attracting and cultivating fans from across the world, and we're thrilled to bring the Philadelphia 76ers to London, a special city with rich culture and tradition". "The basketball fans there are very passionate and I am looking forward to playing the Celtics there in January".
The Celtics, who added free agent Gordon Hayward to a lineup featuring Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford, hope to improve on last season's campaign, when they reached the Eastern Conference Finals after posting the East's best regular-season record (53-29).
The Celtics have always been a staple of the National Basketball Association, and now is a great time to use them to bring in more fans from the outside.
Since 2011, NBA fans in the United Kingdom have had the chance to see the world's best basketball players in action.
For once, the Sixers aren't one of those teams this coming year.
"The sport of basketball continues to show remarkable growth internationally and we're excited to travel to London to play in front of the great fans there on January 11", said Sixers owner Josh Harris, who also has a stake in English soccer club Crystal Palace F.C.
The Boston Celtics are going across the pond. It will be the second time the Celtics have traveled to England's capital, as they also played a preseason game there against the Minnesota Timberwolves back in 2007.
"The Boston Celtics have enjoyed a loyal global following for decades, and we welcome the opportunity to connect again with our worldwide fans", said Celtics team president Rich Gotham. Tickets will go on sale in October.
