WhatsApp users can initiate direct bank to bank UPI transfers from the chat app itself. Also note, the beta version of WhatsApp has now received the filters capability, and it can certainly be expected from the app to add "Swipe up for filters" in order to find the existence of filters.
The peer-to-peer payment feature will come weeks after TrueCaller, another popular application in India, launched UPI-based payment service.
This update does not include visible features and changes, but there is a hidden preview about a future feature in WhatsApp.
Publishing its latest statistics, WhatsApp announced in a blog post: "Just previous year, we shared that one billion people around the world use WhatsApp every month".
As indicated by WaBetaInfo, the payments feature will keep running on WhatsApp variant 2.17.295. A host of delightful features have been offered to WhatsApp users, with the recent news unveiling, the messaging app further appears in the rumor mill with another update. But the availability of the feature is limited to the US.
As per a report by Android Police, the photo filter feature was spotted in WhatsApp Android beta version 2.17.297. It will also function on the Aadhaar infrastructure, and as UPI works on IMPS protocol, it will feature instantaneous transactions. But looking the WhatsApp users base in India, the company might revolutionize the digital payments.
"Whether it's sharing personalised photos and videos, connecting through video calling, or keeping friends updated throughout the day with Status, communicating on WhatsApp has never been easier or more personal".
The publication also reports that the feature is still hidden and under development, but it looks like users won't have to wait long since it is out in the final testing phase.
If Whatsapp Payments does go live, it could be a big success in India as it has about 200 million active users. Several reports have been taking the round ever since WhatsApp's plan to integrate payment failure has been expected. Given the current progress, we can anticipate the UPI integration in WhatsApp in coming months.
