No Man's Sky was a major letdown for many players in its initial release.
Entitled Atlas Rises, the update introduces monumental changes and improvements to numerous game's systems, including 30 hours of entirely new story content, new missions, and a barebones form of online multiplayer. Players near each other can talk over voice chat, but they can't interact in any other way and can only see up to 16 other players at a time. Instead, it was a handsome universe with potential for a fun game to take place in it, released far too early with far too many unrealistic expectations.
No Man's Sky may have been the biggest disappointment of 2016, but that doesn't mean its developers have given up on it quite yet.
The Atlas Rises update introduces another long-awaited feature that will help connect people: portals.
This is just the tip of the update iceberg however, with Atlas Rises also containing 30 hours of new story content that includes the introduction of a brand new alien race.
No Man's Sky's photo mode now supports depth of field.
The universe in No Man's Sky is coming to life with more interactive play. Players will need to be in close distance of one another for this to work, but with the addition of portals meeting up with friends online will now be a real possibility. Hopefully in the next update, you will be able to trade with other players too.
Developer Hello Games has also said the variety and visual quality of different planets has again been expanded and improved, with new planet types also being added to the game.
KitGuru Says: This update for No Man's Sky sounds huge but obviously, this studio has over promised and under delivered in the past so many will remain sceptical until the proof is shown.
