Some of the songs that made Campbell famous constituted part of the soundtrack of Americans' lives during his performance years, and long afterward.

"By the Time I Get to Phoenix" was soon followed with "Galveston", "Gentle on My Mind" and "Wichita Lineman". Glen Campbell had over 20 hits in the U.S. Top 40 list and released 25 Top 10 singles on country hit lists. But Campbell's interpretation of those songs was perfection.

Rather than seeming humbled by his Alzheimer's, Campbell seems oblivious to it.
Campbell was a musician's musician, as was evidenced by his many appearances on the variety shows of others, as well as their appearances on his own show. And I was sad that he felt compelled to keep performing as his Alzheimer's symptoms mounted, with all the difficulties that entailed - the disorientation of being on tour must have been overwhelming at times.
She said: "Glen Campbell was special because he was so gifted".
