According to BuzzFeed, the Chairman of Fulton County, Ga.is calling for a full criminal investigation into the veteran R&B singer following allegations that he is holding women against their will in a cult that "sexually exploits" them. In his statement, Eaves said law enforcement and lawmakers should "not allow our young girls and young women to be preyed upon by predators or anyone who aims to brainwash and strip them of their human dignity and their right to be free".
But when it came to addressing the questions surrounding the pair's rumored marriage, which reports claim was quickly annulled, Kelly said that, out of respect for Aaliyah's family and because of her passing, "I will never have that conversation with anyone". Kelly and his representatives have denied those allegations presented in a BuzzFeed story.
UPDATE (8/11, 2:25 p.m. EDT): Despite the call for an official investigation, police have now said there is no new evidence in the R. Kelly case, directly contradicting what Eaves told reporters earlier today, TMZ reports. Three former members of Kelly's inner circle reported that he controls every aspect of the women's lives, including their diet, wardrobe, sleeping habits and sexual encounters. Per Buzzfeed, Eaves called on the DA to "leave no stone unturned" in its investigation. The woman, who authorities said had no visible injuries or markings, told officers she was "fine and did not want to be bothered with her parents because her father was threatening people".
The Fulton County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to approve a letter to Live Nation requesting it cancel the upcoming concert.
The Board made it clear last week that they wish to prevent Mr. Kelly's Atlanta-area concert, though they do not have the authority to do so and are contractually obligated to honour their own agreements.
Kelly has adamantly denied the allegations however, suggesting the rumors are a "bunch of crap".
The district attorney's office said they are "evaluating" the new file, but there is now no investigation.
