According to the OnePlus Forums, the Head of Product at OnePlus, Oliver Z has revealed that the Android O will be the last major update to be rolled out to the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones. It was already known that this is the last major OS update for nearly all the Nexus branded devices.
While the OnePlus 3 is fairly old at this point (in terms of smartphone shelf-life at least), the OnePlus 3T is just nine months old and many buyers will be a little miffed at this news. OnePlus has now stated that this will also be the last Android OS update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones. As previously confirmed, OnePlus will be rolling out the OxygenOS 4.5 update in the next 1-2 months. In an interview published on the OnePlus forums, the company's head of product has revealed all.
Furthermore, Oliver went on to say that the Open Beta program for the 3/3T will end and exclusively be for the current flagship, the OnePlus 5. This means that there's still hope that they may release more updates in the future.
Regarding the upcoming OxygenOS 4.5 update for the two handsets, Oliver mentioned that the company will be adding a few features from the OnePlus 5 but some major features such as the Reading Mode, new off-screen gestures, and DCI-P3 screen calibration will not be available due to the hardware differences between the three smartphones.
The Android O OS is expected to come out in mid August, with a possible release date expected to be the 21st of August - the day of the solar eclipse. After the OP3/3T have been updated to Android O, we'll start moving the Open Beta Program from OP3/3T to OP5.
