Akshay Kumar's most anticipated film of the year "Toilet Ek Prem Katha" in which he is sharing the screen with "Dum Laga Ke Haisha" fame actress Bhumi Pednekar has been hit the theaters on 11th August, Friday worldwide in the Maximum number of screens.
The film started off on a slow note with its occupancy ranging around 20-50% on its first day. Akshay and Bhumi have been on their toes promoting "Toilet - Ek Prem Katha" and it looks like their efforts have paid off.
However, at the budget point of view Toilet: Ek Prem Katha first day collection is a good figure.
The film has released in 2900- 3000 screens in India and 590 screens in overseas. Shree Narayan Singh's TEPK is able to collect Rs 13.10 crore on its first day of release, which is not a bad figure.
In that aspect, one has to give it to Akshay Kumar for attempting a subject like this which no other reigning superstar would have even imagined to step into. The film is a remake of award winning Tamil movie "Joker" which was released in 2016. Though it faced box office clash with latest Hollywood cinemas in the global market, the film got a huge response from the spectators. However, Jab Harry Met Sejal's opening day collection stood at Rs 15 crore approximately, the highest the film has seen in the domestic market. Akshay and Bhumi's performance is fantastic but the movie is too long and preachy.
It also has the advantage of the public holiday (Independence Day) on Tuesday, which will surely boost the film.
The film follows the story of a newly Wednesday couple played by Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar who live in a small town.
