The small country of Guam has remained concerned when it comes to safety between US forces and North Korean threats.
Tydingco said he's confident that the American military, which has a large presence on the island, is capable of minimizing the threat, should it come to that. "It's great to speak with you". We are with you 1,000 per cent.
"Listening to that call left me feeling disgusted", said Andrea Nicole Grajek, a local artist from Dededo village. "Mr. President, I have never felt so safe as with you at the helm", Calvo told Trump.
Calvo said, "With all the criticism that's going on over there from a guy that's being targeted, we need a president like you". "So I'm just so thankful, and I'm glad you're holding the helm, sir". "They should have had me eight years ago, or somebody with my thought process". "But you're going to be taken care of". "And I wanted to call you and say hello", Trump said. "All over the world they are talking about Guam, and they are talking about you".
North Korea says its Hwasong-12 missiles would take just 1,065 seconds to complete their 3,356km flight over Japan before splashing down in waters off the coast of Guam. Mr Calvo agreed with the President that Guam is "paradise".
Calvo said laughingly that his island is already at 95 percent occupancy, and when everything calms down it will be at 110 percent occupancy. "You are safe." Chief of Staff, John Kelly, had also called Calvo, promising him that the White House is "tracking the North Korea threats and that Guam is well protected". He doesn't talk so much more anymore and we'll see how it all works out. "But you're not going to have a problem".
The pair then spoke about partisanship in the nation's capital.
The threats of possible aggression against Guam - often referred to as the "tip of the spear" - have become a focal point of debate about the presence of United States military forces on the island. "Really, the answer is not THAAD or more weapons, but demilitarization and thinking about how we can create peace in the region and have the de-proliferation of nuclear weapons, both in Korea and in the United States". "It shouldn't be Democrats or Republicans, it should everybody be unifying behind our president". "It should be everybody unifying behind our president".
"Don't worry about a thing", responded Trump. But regardless, our military is so incredible, and there's no partisanship there, believe me.
"The circumstances are unfortunate, but this is a good opportunity for us to educate the world about Guam and our culture, about where we are and who we are", Josh Tyquiengco, the bureau's marketing director, told the Agence France-Presse.
"It just looks like a handsome place", Mr. Trump said.
