Blizzard has announced that it will open a brand new live-event destination for esports competitions in Los Angelas. Then, on October 13 the Hearthstone Summer Championship will host a weekend of competition with a $250,000 prize.
The facility is said to have multiple sound stages and control rooms that will support a range of live events. "The on-site Blizzard store will open during events and feature a rotating selection of gear and goods based on the event taking place at the time". If you're a fan, or just super curious about the e-sports explosion, you can find tickets for the "Overwatch" and "Hearthstone" competitions here and here, respectively.
E-sports is considered a big part of the future of online game playing, with millions of dollars being invested in teams and facilities to host competitions. "Overwatch" is a multiplayer online first-person shooter video game that is played on Windows computers, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Blizzard claim that the arena will host Overwatch League matches later this year when the Overwatch League kicks off, reconfirming their plans to launch the OWL this year, but also that matches will be held in the Arena. Blizzard has been planning big things for Overwatch esports by establishing city-based teams. "We've definitely learned from all the events we've put on over the years". Note that the location was called Blizzard Arena Los Angeles, which indicates we could very well see other locations scattered throughout the world, perhaps even overseas in South Korea.
This isn't the first esports-centric arena in the United States.
The Blizzard Arena is also created to serve a worldwide audience.
