"We confirm that Umang Bedi will be leaving his role and Facebook at the end of this year", the company said in a statement.
Bedi joined Facebook after serving as managing director for India operations for Adobe.
Bedi was appointed as the Managing Director in mid 2016.
Reddy stepped down soon after Facebook shut down "Free Basics" in India following an order by telecom regulator Trai barring operators from charging discriminatory rates for Internet access based on content. He succeeded Kirthiga Reddy at Facebook, who returned to the USA to take on a new role at the company's headquarters at Menlo Park. He is now developing strategies and partnerships for the social media platform. Bedi will be associated with Facebook till the end of December.
As part of its Express WiFi Project in May 2017, the social media platform joined hands with Bharti Airtel to install 20,000 hotspots across the country. He said, "It has been a phenomenal one and a half years at Facebook".
India holds tremendous potential for Facebook and is the most critical and strategic market for the company, Bedi said, adding that the country is also the top market for developers for building with Facebook outside the US.
These efforts seem to have come to fruition, now that India has overtaken the U.S. to become the social networking platform's largest country-based audience.
