In a tweet published Wednesday, the "Family Guy" boss recalled, "In 2011, my friend and colleague Jessica Barth, with whom I worked on the Ted films, confided in me regarding her encounter with Harvey Weinstein and his attempted advances".
Was Harvey Weinstein's reputation in Hollywood well known long before allegations of sexual harassment and assault emerged?
"I support her decision, I am in counselling and perhaps, when I am better, we can rebuild", Weinstein said.
Barth, like others in the article, alleges that she was invited under the guise of a business meeting to Weinstein's hotel room, where she says he proceeded to demand a naked massage. "Out of five." In another episode, she lamented, "In some ways, I'm still pinned under a passed-out Harvey Weinstein, and it's Thanksgiving".
In a bit with Emma Stone at the time, MacFarlane, who was hosting the program, jokingly addressed the nominees for best supporting actress, and said, "Congratulations, you five ladies no longer have to pretend to be attracted to Harvey Weinstein".
Macfarlane posted on Twitter Wednesday, saying his joke was made in "loathing", after a friend's account of sexual harassment. "There is nothing more abhorrent and indefensible than abuse of power such as this".
One thing people will notice is that if MacFarlane was aware of Weinstein's behavior from as far back as 2013, why didn't he do anything?
It came hours after actresses Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow claimed Weinstein targeted them early in their careers and he faced bombshell claims he raped three women, including Italian actress Asia Argento.
Want more celebrity, entertainment and lifestyle news? Mr. Weinstein obviously can't speak to anonymous allegations, but with respect to any women who have made allegations on the record, Mr. Weinstein believes that all of these relationships were consensual.
In one of the biggest scandals to have ever hit Hollywood, Weinstein has denied the mounting claims against him but has apologised for causing 'pain'.
