Despite being labelled a terrorist organisation by the federal government, members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, staged a demonstration in Onitsha, the Anambra State capital, threatening voters not to participate in the November 18 governorship election in the state.
"That is to further say that with only 4,608 polling booths in Anambra State, it statistically means 11 armed security personnel are allocated for each of the 4,608 polling booths in the state".
She asked residents of the state to go out en masse to exercise their franchise on the day of the election.
On the other hand, it said, a failure of the boycott will also place the Biafran struggle on the line, should Anambra people come out en-mass in November to vote.
"The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is very prepared to conduct the election". No free and fair elections have ever been conducted in Nigeria's history, so Anambra State can not be an exception.
"Sequel to forthcoming governorship election, I hereby inform the general public that the election petition tribunal for governorship in Anambra has been constituted".
"Assurances by security agencies only represent necessary first steps".
The statement also declared that Commissioners of Police and personnel in the states contiguous to Anambra State have been put on red-alert not to allow an influx of miscreants and thugs into Anambra State.
"All of us ran away when somebody said it was a bomb".
The party said that it wishes to "advise all purveyors of electoral malfeasance and brigandage who are neck-deep and hell-bent on rigging the election to have a rethink, repent and jettison the unwholesome, diabolical and untenable idea".
In a statement signed by the President Electorl commission in the state, Dr. Nkwachkwu Orji, he denied the rumour of missing sensitive election material.
The report went further to disclose that it is likely that six LGAs may witness low voter turnout as a result of the IPOB call for election boycott, adding that these LGAs are the strongholds of IPOB and are likely to mobilise members and sympathizers to boycott the governorship election.
"We will want to appeal to all the contestants to play by the rules and also speak to their supporters on the need to have a peaceful election".
