An appreciative crowd of 63,415 fans packed Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday to support the No. 3 Hurricanes (10-0, 7-0 ACC) and honor Miami's 14 seniors in their final game on their home field. The Hurricanes even went down by 14 points twice. That's not the only reason they're 10-0, but it is a reason.
(5) WISCONSIN 24, (19) MI 10: Alex Hornibrook's 24-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Taylor in third quarter broke open a defensive slugfest, Kendric Pryor scored on an end-around and Wisconsin (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten) beat MI (8-3, 5-3) at Madison, Wisconsin.
Despite the effort from Benkurt, the Hurricanes defense played well with three more appearances from the Turnover Chain, five sacks, and keeping the Cavs scoreless in the second half.
The Hurricanes flexed their muscles after that by scoring 30 unanswered points and would eventually win 44-28.
The Canes have one more contest left, when they travel to Pittsburgh the day after Thanksgiving. Whether a loss here would have derailed them with an ACC championship game victory over Clemson on December 2 could have been the subject of debate.
"Without a doubt, they were ready to play". Oklahoma State almost erased a 29-point deficit in the second half, but Kansas State (6-5, 4-4 Big 12) held on to become bowl eligible for the eighth consecutive season.
No. 6 Auburn 42, Louisiana-Monroe 14: Darius Slayton caught a 50-yard touchdown pass late in the first half, and Auburn (9-2) pulled away to set up next week's visit from No. 1 Alabama.
Virginia happens to be better than those three schools, a team that has experienced its own renaissance this season under Bronco Mendenhall. True freshman quarterback Shawn Robinson ran for 84 yards and threw a key second-half touchdown in his first career start to help No. 12 TCU (9-2, 6-2) stay in contention for a spot in the Big 12 championship game with a 27-3 victory over host Texas Tech (5-6, 2-6). He finished with three passing touchdowns and for the third straight game, a rushing touchdown. Saquon Barkley broke No. 10 Penn State's career touchdown record with three scores and had 208 of 224 total yards in the first half for the Nittany Lions (9-2, 6-2) in a 56-44 victory over visiting Nebraska (4-7, 3-5). Richards has been battling injuries all season. Through the course of the game, Miami's offensive line wore down the Cavs, and running back Travis Homer was able to spring free in the fourth quarter.
UM has forced 19 turnovers in the past five games.
The strength of Miami is in their defense.
Johnson, a Walter Camp Award Semi-finalist, had his fourth interception of the season that changed the dynamic of the game.
Benkert also threw a costly interception, which was returned 30 yards for a Miami touchdown, and tied the game 28-28 in the third quarter.
If defense really does win championships, the University of Miami is in good shape. Either way, Miami looked like the team that struggled to eke out wins against North Carolina, Syracuse and Georgia Tech for vast portions against the Cavaliers.
