There is a nationwide Christmas tree shortage and prices are rising. The Christmas tree harvest is underway at Holiday Tree Farms, the biggest grower of holiday trees in the United States, as workers harvest and ship an estimated one million trees ahead of the Christmas holiday.
According to reports, tree farms in North Carolina and OR have been hit the hardest by the nationwide shortfall this year.
Hilliker planted 1,000 white spruce trees by hand the first year on land that wasn't ideal for other agricultural crops like corn and soybeans.
Deputy City Manager Matt Walsh has said the change would keep meters from jamming, which frustrates the public and can cause the kiosks to close.

The official start of the tree season in Arnie's parking lot is the day after Thanksgiving, but they'll be there on Wednesday - if you just can't wait.
At Brown's Christmas Tree Farm in York County, the approaching Thanksgiving holiday means setting up shop, making wreaths and cutting trees.
"We can't afford to pay that price - that's what we charged our customers", Julie Vario said. "It's not just a tree".
"We got calls from our purveyors in Wisconsin and North Carolina saying get your orders in early because if they don't, we may not be able to meet your needs", Wegman said.
