Payton Pritchard led the team with 14 points on 4 of 13 shooting with a pair of threes, while Paul White added 12 points and MiKyle McIntosh added 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds with a pair of steals for the double-double. Jaren Jackson Jr. recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Cassius Winston and Josh Langford each tallied 10 points a piece.
The good news for the DePaul Blue Demons is that they are slowly bringing in more talent to the program and things are looking up. MI is 5-and-1 and will be at home Sunday against UC Riverside. Oakland plays at number-two Kansas tonight in a HoopHall Miami Invitational campus game. Strus was just 1-10 from the field, but went 10 for 10 from the line to finish as one of three Blue Demons in double figures. Kyle Bolin started the first five games before losing his job to Giovanni Rescigno, who was replaced by Johnathan Lewis in the second half against in and Rutgers coach Chris Ash on Monday declined to name a starter against Michigan State.
The Spartans dominant run continued throughout much of the second half as the Blue Demons continued to struggle scoring. However, Stony Brook forward Tyrell Sturdivant, who finished the half with 10 points, hit a three to stretch the Seawolves lead back to five at 28-23 with 7:45 remaining in the half.
Michigan State quickly battled back and went on their own 6-0 tun to get within two points.
"I don't think he was happy", Izzo said.
Stony Brook's hot shooting could not last the whole half. His tough game ended with 7:52 remaining when he fouled out and finished scoreless with four rebounds. Olaniyi hit a three and UC Iroegbu followed with another with a Jakub Petras layup in between to cut the Spartans lead to nine at 62-53 with 11:39 remaining.
However, up from rock bottom is pretty low, and it is about to get worse as they open the PK80 Tournament against the No. 4 Michigan State Spartans.
Before injuring the ankle, Bridges was averaging a team-high 19.7 points and seven rebounds per games.
Izzo said Bridges, who suffered a sprained ankle Sunday and didn't play Thursday, would be available if it were the NCAA tournament. "I'd say by Tuesday morning, I'll know a little bit more". As a team, DePaul is scoring 65.8 points per game on 35.2% shooting from the field, 26.3% from behind the arc and 74.4% from the foul line this season.
"We are going to try and do our pressure", Ollie said. Michigan State also recorded 17 assists in the game with eight of them coming from Winston.
The Spartans will be off until Thanksgiving night where they will take on Depaul in the first round of the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland, Oreg.
