Downing Street has become heavily fortified since the Irish Republican Army (IRA) attempted to kill former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 1984.
It's alleged two would-be terrorists planned on launching an "improvised explosive device at Downing Street" before locating the Prime Minister and killing her, Sky News has reported.
Nine terrorist attacks have been prevented in the U.K.in 2017, MI5 Director General Andrew Parker told Theresa May's government Tuesday.
It was not clear on Tuesday night what stage the plot was in or if any suspects have been arrested.Читайте также: Liverpool name their price for Coutinho
The terror attack was foiled after a joint operation by Scotland Yard, West Midlands Police, and MI5.
It identified them as Naa'imur Zakariyah Rahman, 20, of North London, and Mohammed Aqib Imran, 21, of south-east Birmingham. He is accused of preparing acts of terrorism. Four have been successful, including the May attack that killed 22 following an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena.
In 1991 the IRA launched a home-made mortar bomb attack on Number 10.
The nearest the IRA got to killing a British prime minister was in 1984 when they targeted the hotel Margaret Thatcher and top officials were staying in for that year's annual Conservative party conference in Brighton on Britain's south coast.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
