Production temporarily halted on Friday, with Fox saying Singer was unavailable.
Deadline is reporting that Fox has hired Fletcher, best known for Eddie the Eagle and Proclaimers musical Sunshine on Leith, to shepherd the final two weeks of production on the film, as well as potential reshoots.
Singer's tardiness and "erratic behavior" and "unprofessionalism" reportedly created rifts between the director and stars Malek and Tom Hollander, who portrays Queen manager Jim Beach-Hollander is said to have quit due to Singer's behavior before later being convinced to come back on.
Bohemian Rhapsody will chart the rise of the British rock band Queen through to their iconic Live Aid performance in 1985. "This was not my decision and it was beyond my control", he had said.
Fox has yet to say if they intend to have Sigel finish the film himself, or if they'll bring in another director to finish up production. The Hollywood Reporter writes that at one point Singer threw an object at Malek, who is set to play Freddie Mercury in the movie.
Fox had given a similarly terse statement on December 1 when it announced, "Twentieth Century Fox Film has temporarily halted production on Bohemian Rhapsody due to the unexpected unavailability of Bryan Singer". Bryan Singer, perhaps best known for his work on the X-Men movie franchise, was sacked from the movie on Monday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This will be a good warm up for him as he's previously been tapped to direct an upcoming biopic with singer Elton John as the subject. The director, meanwhile, says that he did not act unprofessionally and that he needed time off from the London-based project to return home to be with his family during a hard time.
Hopefully, we'll get an update from the studio soon on who they've chosen to replace Singer, but until that time comes, take to the comments section down below and let us know if you've got anyone in mind! There have been rumors surrounding Singer and the production for some time, including that film took breaks more than once because of the mercurial director going AWOL from the London shoot.
