His father, LaVar Ball, a controversial figure all on his own, pulled LiAngelo out of the prestigious university, less than a month after his arrest in China, eventual return to the states and indefinite suspension imposed by coach Steve Alford.
"LiAngelo has been, since coming back [from China], he's been tremendous", Alford said. "If they need to talk to me, they know where to find me".
"It's a disappointment there's an end to that where he didn't get to be a part of an incredible academic institution, so that's out". "So yeah, there's definitely a disappointment that there's some finality to that".
"When you don't get to experience that, that's disappointing". "We're going to drop the charges.' That's the punishment they gave them", LaVar Ball said on the Today show.
Alford indicated Tuesday that he expected the fate of the other two suspended players to be resolved in the near term.
Some basketball insiders have kicked around the idea of LiAngelo and LaMelo potentially going overseas to play.
The Bruins announced Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were indefinitely suspended after stealing from multiple stores when the team was in Hangzhou preparing for a November 10 game against Georgia Tech.
The problem at this exact moment, though, is that in order to entice any National Basketball Association teams to give LiAngelo and LaMelo a look, LaVar is going to have to find somewhere for both of them to play in the near future.
Wednesday, Nov. 15's news conference at UCLA was held less that 20 hours after Cody Riley, from left, LiAngelo Ball and Jalen Hill arrived at LAX after a flight from China. Authorities eventually let them go home.
"I'm going to get Gelo in shape, I'm going to work him out, we're going to do some other things and he's going to be headed to the National Basketball Association, '" he told "Access Hollywood" in an interview aired Tuesday on the "Today" show.
"It was disgusting", he said.
Just recently, Ball's middle son, Liangelo, was the one that brought him into the national spotlight. Yes, all three brothers (Lonzo Ball plays for the Los Angeles Lakers) are good at basketball. Ball revealed that they spent "a day and a half" in prison while Chinese officers took their clothes and made them wear whatever clothing the facility had to offer. Oldest son Lonzo is a rookie with the Lakers after playing one successful season at UCLA. The NCAA president wants the NBA to eliminate that rule so students stop "using" colleges to play one year of basketball, so his issue with the Ball family likely has more to do with that.
In the tweet, Trump criticized Ball as being ungrateful of what he did for his son and the two other freshmen.
LaVar told "Access Hollywood" he sent Trump three pair of Big Baller shoes in red, white and blue.
