This week's "business" is the Chicago Bears. The Lions have allowed an average of 4.2 yards per carry, so the Bears' best hope is to try to ram it down their throats and keep Stafford and the Lions offense off the field. Hopefully a strong crowd shows up in voice to give the Lions the home field advantage they'll need.
A big assist for the Bears DB's should come from their pass rushers, who sacked Stafford three times last month, and nearly the entire Lions offensive line has appeared on the injury list this week. But, the Lions fail to punch it in and Matt Prater kicks a 31-yard field goal to increase Detroit's lead to 6-0. Although the Bears are dead last in passing yards per game and 25th in average gain per pass, the Detroit defense is only 27th and 28th, respectively.
Inactive for the Lions are center Travis Swanson (concussion), right tackle Rick Wagner (ankle), wide receiver Bradley Marquez, guard Emmett Cleary, defensive tackle Rodney Coe and running backs Zach Zenner and Dwayne Washington. The Bears do well when the ground game is working with Howard and other running back Tarik Cohen.
Lions 24, Bears 21: The Lions will nearly certainly struggle with stopping running back Jordan Howard, as well as mobile quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.
Giving the opposing team extra chances to score is never good and in most scenarios, it ends with a loss.
Detroit fumbled once last time against Chicago and it could have cost the team the game. Chicago punts and Detroit will take over on its 26. Star cornerback Darius Slay and safety Glover Quin will need to step up and create some plays for the defense.
The Lions remain in the playoff hunt after a win in Tampa Bay last week moved their record to 7-6.
Turnovers will be the key to victory here. Ten teams in the division have seven wins or more, making the final three weeks of the season a death race to the finish. Stopping Howard will be tough and Detroit will struggle with him again.
Detroit could very well slip up here as the playoff door shuts. But quarterback Mitch Trubisky also had one of his best outings of the year.
