In addition to Maxwell, White pipped the likes of Short and in-form Scorchers batsman Ashton Turner to claim his place in the ODI squad, and is in serious contention to line up in Australia's middle order against England.
Cameron, who has not played International ODI cricket for nearly three years will replace the injured all-rounder Chris Lynn. It doesn't make a lot of sense.
White hasn't played a one-dayer for Australia since 2015, but has been in excellent form for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash. I honestly don't know.
Chief selector Trevor Hohns had high praises for White and insisted that his present form has earned him the recall.
"I don't think I'd change what I said, that was just me being honest about what I thought about the selection process at the time", White told a news conference. Hopefully I can. Making a few runs in the Big Bash hasn't hurt.
White was the leading runscorer in last year's domestic one-day competition, having amassed 457 runs and two hundreds, while he hit 165 from 154 balls against Tasmania in October.
Maxwell's initial non-selection was due to his average of 22 across the last 20 ODIs, according to selector Trevor Hohns.
"In the back of my mind I never really gave up all hope".
When asked which position he is expecting to play, White said, "I've got no idea, we've got a team meeting coming up shortly so I might get a bit more of an idea there", White said.
