India has started its Under 19 World Cup campaign with a handsome win over the Aussies.
Indian bowlers were given a big total by the batsmen to defend. But the real heroes of the match for India were the Indian pacers.
BRIEF SCORESGroup A: South Africa 341-7 in 50 Overs (Raynard van Tonder 143, Jiveshan Pillay 62; Jasraj Kundi 2-49, Jayant Mepani 2-60) beat Kenya 172-7 in 50 Overs (Jasraj Kundi 41, Ankit Hirani 35 not out; Akhona Mnyaka 2-9, Kenan Smith 2-36) by 189 runs at Lincoln No. 3, Christchurch.
Skipper Prithvi Shaw led from the front with a 94-run knock and shared a 180-run stand with fellow opener Manjot Kalra, who made 86.
It was a six from Shaw which opened the floodgates for India.
There was no respite for the Australian bowlers even after departure of Shaw and Kalra with Shubhman Gill tormenting the bowlers with his 63-run knock.
Shaw was dismissed on 94 when he edged the ball to the keeper, while Kalra was caught at mid-wicket and was dismissed at 86.
The duo scalped three wickets each by giving 45 and 29 runs from their 8.5 and 7 over spell respectively.
