Teammates Dwight Howard #12 and Kemba Walker #15 of the Charlotte Hornets react on the bench during their game against the Milwaukee Bucks at Spectrum Center on November 1, 2017 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Yep, you saw that right.
The Charlotte Hornets have put their All-Star point guard on the market ahead of the National Basketball Association trade deadline, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday, citing National Basketball Association sources.
Is this surprising? Well, yes and no.
Kemba Walker does not want to be traded. I don't know what it feels like. Staying with one team would be a "special thing" in his eyes. "I don't have any comment on that", Clifford said. "I've never been in that situation".
Walker is the sixth-highest-paid Hornet this season - behind Dwight Howard, Nic Batum, Marvin Williams, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Cody Zeller.
Kemba teaming up with LeBron James? Charlotte drafted Walker as the ninth pick in the 2011 NBA Draft but had little success in the postseason with Walker on the roster.
That's risky business for any team, but especially for the Utah Jazz. As mentioned previously, the Cavaliers have a lot of good pieces to offer to the Hornets in exchange for Walker. His ability to run the point and capability of going off on any given night are both absolutely phenomenal traits. This is kind of where I've grown up. If the Knicks decide to be sellers and also make trades to shed rotation players before the deadline, it could become an interesting "race" for draft position between them.
Walker has been the lone success in a long line of lottery picks for the Hornets, who have made the playoffs just three times over the last 13 years. Cousins will be a free agent this summer, though New Orleans has plans of signing him to a long-term contract.
Some have suggested that maybe a change of scenery would be ideal for Batum and putting him on the Jazz could help revamp his career and end up being a positive for Utah, allowing them to then have a formidable Kemba along with a restored Batum. I doubt the Philadelphia 76ers pull the trigger, but there's reason to believe they should. "I've put my heart and soul into this team, into this city, and that's what I'm going to do until everything is over".
