Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies pursued as the suspect went south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95, causing a multi-car crash in Lantana, between West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale.
About 15 minutes later, motorists reported seeing a black Nissan Rogue traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-95.
Bradshaw said the suspect may also have been involved in a shooting in West Palm Beach on Tuesday night.
"A white male suspect shot a white female, put her in a vehicle and fled the scene", Sheriff Ric Bradshaw told reporters. The auto caused three accidents along the highway.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the suspect who was killed fatally shot a woman in Lake Worth earlier in the morning, put her in his auto and fled the area.
Two people were injured in the three separate auto accidents, but none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening. When the deputy and trooper approached the vehicle with the suspect inside, the trooper tried to deploy their Taser, but it did not have any effect.
The sheriff said deputies and the Florida Highway Patrol arrived just as the last of three separate crashes occurred near Lantana Road.
The officers rushed the Rogue and the trooper shocked the driver with his stun gun, but it didn't work, Bradshaw said.
The unidentified woman, who was shot in Lake Worth, was also in the vehicle dead.
Interstate 95 was closed to traffic northbound from Gateway Blvd.to 6th Ave. The deputy then shot and killed the suspect.
This closure comes as a shooting in Boca Raton closed the southbound lanes of I-95 between Linton Boulevard to Yamato Road for several hours.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the deputy shooting and the FHP officer's Taser. He did not release the name of the suspect, saying his relatives not been identified and notified.
