Pittsburgh Penguins fans hold up signs, one for Vegas Golden Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury (29), not pictured, prior to the start of National Hockey League game at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017. Regardless of how you feel about the Penguins, Fleury earned a wonderful tribute and he got it. Give them credit for that. His three-game winning streak is over.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have broken out of their season long slumber and are looking like the defending Stanley Cup champions. Fleury made 691 appearances during the regular season with the Penguins and 806 overall. "I want to win the game, but I don't want to block everything out either". Evgeni Malkin scored his 30th goal of the season, marking the sixth time in his career he has reached that mark.
New Jersey received goals from Travis Zajac and Blake Coleman in the second period before Zajac scored his second of the game with just nine seconds remaining to secure the win. Pittsburgh got the next two making it five unanswered. Will coach Gerard Gallant keep Alex Tuch with Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Ryan Carpenter after the trio combined for two goals and three assists vs. Washington? The Western Conference leaders have 20 wins in their last 28 games.
Fleury practiced in Pittsburgh with the Golden Knights for the first time Monday.
"Everything is going to be weird, awkward", Fleury said. He helped the Penguins to the franchise's fourth Stanley Cup and eventually grabbed the No. 1 job. Fleury waived his no-movement clause before the trade deadline so the Penguins could protect Murray.
In Raleigh, North Carolina, Jordan Weal scored with 3.1 seconds left in overtime and Philadelphia topped the Hurricanes.
At the first broadcast break, the Penguins showed an incredible tribute video to Fleury's tenure in Pittsburgh, highlighting his greatest moments from a special career. Fans, of course, gave Fleury a standing ovation and a round of chants.
"Ryan's been an inspiration I think to everybody's that he's been around and the attitude that he's at in terms of his rehabilitation", Rooney said Wednesday on Steelers Live. A larger-than-normal crowd of supporters gathered behind the visitors' goal, many holding handmade signs and cheering each time he took the net. So, you know, he's going to be part of the team one way or the other and he's still working hard at his rehab. "He's well-liked and everybody loves (Fleury) for good reason". At the end of warmups, Fleury skated to the red line and took a shot off the pads from Penguins defenseman Kris Letang to the delight of the crowd. "It's a night I won't forget". Will Carrier is out with an upper-body injury and that means Brendan Leipsic is back in. Pittsburgh also scratched defensemen Matt Hunwick and Chad Ruhwedel.
Penguins: At the Dallas Stars on Friday.
