The final ratings for Super Bowl 52 show the 2018 game garnered a little more than one hundred million viewers, making it the least-watched Super Bowl broadcast in eight years.
The NFL's viewership has been down this year, with experts citing factors like increased injuries, some confusing rules changes and anger at players protesting police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem.
Still, the network boasted the ratings as a win.
Now that it has been 48 hours since the conclusion of Super Bowl LII, people have already began to put the Philadelphia Eagles' upset of the New England Patriots among the best of all-time. A new episode of family drama "This is Us", which followed the Super Bowl, brought in 27 million viewers, the most-watched scripted show on NBC in more than 13 years.
As always, the Super Bowl will finish as the top-rated TV program of the year, and the broadcast ranks 10th on the list of most-watched U.S. TV broadcasts of all time.
"We know the Super Bowl is watched in large groups at parties, on college campuses, and elsewhere", stated Mark Lazarus, chairman, NBC Broadcasting and Sports.
The relatively low ratings were despite the intriguing narrative between the Eagles and the New England Patriots.
The "out of home" metric for Super Bowl was calculated based exclusively on viewership of the NBC broadcast (6:31-10:25 p.m. ET), and accounts for a 12 percent lift for the NBC delivery to an average of 115.6 million viewers (from the 103.4 million viewers reported on Monday).
The drop in Super Bowl viewership fits with the general trend regarding the NFL's television ratings.
In NFL.com's power rankings of the top Super Bowl games in history, this past Super Bowl is now ranked third on the all-time list.
