The Oklahoma City Thunder appeared to be on their way to their lofty preseason expectations during an eight-game win streak.
George will be a free agent after this season, so when the Thunder played the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night - a team George's camp has expressed interest in - Lakers fans chanted, 'We want Paul!'
There also was "a little bit more chemistry" among Thunder players, George said, in their second game without Westbrook and Anthony.
George enjoyed his trips to the free throw line most, when much of the chanting occurred.
"I don't think we need any more fines", Kuzma said with a laugh, referencing the $50,000 tampering fine the Lakers received for Magic Johnson's praise of Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. "Trying to get more of that".
After the game, George was asked about those chants and tried to act as if he didn't hear them, but he knows what's up, too. "I thought tonight, I got my rhythm". Patrick Patterson, Raymond Felton and Jerami Grant added 14 points apiece. They improved their record to 23-31 but they remain five games behind for the last playoffs berth in the Western Conference.
As a team, the Thunder shot incredibly well from three-point range after converting on 16-of-37 shots. After that slow start, the Thunder went on a 25-6 run to take a 27-14 lead and the team was on cruise control from there. Adams scored just nine points, but the 7-footer's presence created problems.
"We were actually joking before he went up there, and I'm like, 'Nah, Russ, man, just let it go, let it go Russ". "Obviously, they have guys who are capable shooters but we just didn't do a good enough job off the ball defensively to help one another".
Marc Gasol led the Grizzlies with 18 points. They have lost six in a row.
Josh Huestis was 0-for-3 from the field and did not score. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope protected the Lakers' dominance with a diverse shot selection and had 10 points by halftime. G Andrew Harrison picked up his third foul with 8:43 left in the second quarter. Paul George was equally impressive, adding 38 points and six steals.
Tyreke Evans' return and mindset - Evans will likely be back in the lineup against the Thunder, but it remains to be seen what his mindset will be after he was not traded as expected.
