The Ferrari 488 Pista accelerates from 0-100kph in just 2.85 seconds and hits 200kph in 7.6 seconds. But nobody was arguing with the 488's increase in power.
The 488 Pista, which translates as "Track", is the latest in Ferrari's special series, and makes 710 horsepower while weighing 198 lb less than the 488 GTB and gaining some extra special handling prowess. Con rods are titanium, the intake plenums are carbon fiber, and the crankshaft and flywheel have both gone on a diet. It is hard to understand what is so different with this Ferrari 488 Pista, from the 488 GTE, the 488 Challenge and the 488 Spider. Or to use the correct full name: Ferrari 488 Pista. Also new are the underbody vortex generators with a rear diffuser also heavily derived from the 488 GTE. In addition, the rear blown spoiler is higher and longer and the shape has been optimised. "The final result of all these interventions is an impressive 20% increase in downforce compared to the 488 GTB".
The vehicle dynamics were created to enhance driving pleasure and make the car's full potential available to all drivers, professional or otherwise.
Ferrari says that one of its main objectives with this new Pista was to make the auto easier for non-pro drivers to control at the limit.
The new Ferrari 488 Pista features all of Ferrari's driving aids to enhance performance including version 6 of the Side-Slip Angle Control system that includes E-Diff3, F1-Trac, the magnetorheological suspension (SCM) and an all-new feature which the Italian supercar brand calls Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer. At next month's Geneva International Motor Show, Ferrari will officially unveil a auto set to eclipse every performance and handling element of this hallowed trio-the 2019 Ferrari 488 Pista. The Pista also gets the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer thrown into this package, which gives the car's computers full control of brake pressure at each individual caliper during cornering to help you keep the ideal drift angle through corners, power out harder, and generally feel like even more of a superhero.
The aerodynamic package was optimised from the 488 GTE racing auto. Ferrari Design used innovative elements, such as the aerodynamic S-Duct at the front, as an opportunity to visually shorten the car's nose, creating an original floating wing effect. New tyres have been developed specifically for the 488 Pista by Michelin.
The racing livery colour scheme is an integral part of the design of the vehicle and the way it dives into the S-Duct underscores the berlinetta's compact yet imposing forms.
The weight has been shed through extensive use of carbon fibre for wheels, engine cover, bumpers and rear spoiler.
