PDP sources told IBNS that an order, which reads that Drabu was suspended from the Council of Ministers after he made a statement on Kashmir, has been issued.
The Kashmiri society faces "social issues" and the problem should be treated as such, Drabu claimed at an event organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi on March 9. PDP vice-president Sartaj Madni had also asked him to retract the statement immediately.
"The PDP feels highly perturbed at the obvious lack of urgency in resolving this issue and reiterates its commitment to uphold the party's stated objectives in which the resolution of the political issue has paramount importance". Resultant, annoyance of lawmakers from the PDP and the opposition party as well.
Another PDP leader and MLC Zaffar Iqbal Manhas said Drabu's statement challenges the party's basic stand vis-à-vis Kashmir issue.
Speaking at an event themed "Kashmir: the way forward", Drabu asked the people to "introspect" over the nature and origins of the situation in the state and how it can be resolved.
It said the sacrifices of Eesa and Owais have in fact increased the responsibility of the Kashmiris manifold to safeguard the enormous sacrifices from the activities of elements like Haseeb Drabu.
National Conference has described PDP's declaration that Kashmir was not a political issue but a social issue as a "shocking and shameful" U-turn by the party which, for years, sought support and votes primarily to help in the resolution of the political issue that has claimed thousands of lives and pushed the State into the throes of instability and suffering.
