He said some people may argue that a space force would "compromise the sanctity of considering space to be off limits from warfare".
"We will call it the space force", President Trump proclaimed. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard?
But, before the USA begins building the super bomber, the air force will carry out a "critical design review" to see how it can better implement the tech. "So think of that: Space Force, because we are spending a lot and we have a lot of private money coming in, tremendous".
The problem is Trump's administration actively opposed the idea of a Space Force past year.
But the idea of a new military branch centered on the cosmos is in fact far from a Trump original.
"I said 'maybe we need a new force".
While Trump was nearly jokingly floating the idea, there has always been a military aspect to the space race. "I was not really serious, and then I said "what a great idea, maybe we'll have to do that".
Republican Representative Mike Rogers told a February 28 conference at the Center for Strategic and International Studies that a separate space corps could be carved out from the air force within "three to five years". But he may be thinking of the National Defense Authorization Act that he signed into law in December.
Which branch of the USA military would you like to enlist in? "In space, the United States are finally going to lead again", Trump said. It's unclear if Trump's Space Force would be any similar to what the Space Crops was meant to be.
