McKinnon had said after last season he was looking to possibly leave Minnesota.
Minnesota Vikings running back Jerick McKinnon (21) runs the ball against Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Corey Graham (24) during the second quarter in the NFC Championship game at Lincoln Financial Field.
"I want to be the guy".
McKinnon never established himself as a starter with the Vikings, but when Dalvin Cook tore his ACL a year ago, he performed well as part of a two-headed attack with Latavius Murray. I don't put in all the work in the offseason to come back and be in this role.
"Jet is going to get a lot of interest in the free agency market because he can play both running back, third down, and do a little stuff at wide receiver and special teams", Schrager said.
The four highest-paid running backs in the National Football League for the 2018 season are set to be Le'Veon Bell, Devonta Freeman, LeSean McCoy, and ... He should be taking his agent out to a very nice dinner once this deal is signed.
McKinnon was also loosely linked as a possibility for the Giants to sign, mostly because of his connection of playing in Pat Shurmur's offense with the Vikings the last two seasons. It looks as though the 49ers will give him that chance.
It's a little bittersweet that McKinnon will not be returning to the Vikings, as he was a favorite among fans and teammates. His best fantasy finish came this past season when he ranked 24th among running backs in PPR scoring. But the running back had to take the opportunity given to him by the 49ers and he will now be attempting to prove that he can be one of the best at his position in the entire league.
