In the state Assembly, Fadnavis said that the police doesn't have a single piece of evidence against Bhide.
On the alleged eyewitness account of a woman who had named Sambhaji Bhide, the chief minister said, "The woman had revealed during the investigation that she had cited the name of Bhide based on hearsay and had never met or seen him at Koregaon Bhima".
Fadnavis, however, said that the government has not closed the inquiry and "will minutely inspect any fresh evidence that comes up". "In the last six months, neither Bhide nor his close aides went to that area". It shows that neither Bhide nor the prominent workers had visited the spot. They did not talk to anyone there.
However, Fadnavis asserted that the investigation is not yet over. The guilty, howsoever big, even if my family member is involved in the incident, will not be spared. However, the otherwise peaceful event at Bhima Koregaon village turned violence when people belonging to Upper Castes opposed it and allegedly assaulted the Dalits. The attacks and subsequently the riots took place primarily because of misunderstanding between two groups, he told the house. "It sparked the clashes", Fadnavis said. "Permission has been denied to the march of 'Shivprathisthan scheduled on March 28, from Byculla to Azad Maidan". But, admitted that the police deployment at the parking site was not sufficient, which sort of gave a fee hand to rioters who torched vehicles parked there. Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar took out a rally in Mumbai for their demand of Bhide's arrest, but Bhide's supporters are planning rallies in various parts of the state to support him. "By doing so, he sent out a signal that Mr. Bhide should not be touched", Ambedkar said. The CM said Ambedkar had mentioned a Facebook post to the CM, and had submitted new proof, which Fadnavis said would be examined in eight days. "Is the government hell-bent on increasing communal tension in the State?" he asked. The previous government had written to the Union government on January 13, 2011 demanding the ban. "We did not find him speaking to anyone over the phone about the incident either", he said.
Meanwhile, Bharip Bahujan Maha Sangha (BBMS) President Adv Prakash Ambedkar too has gone back on his earlier statement that Bhide had actively incited the violence.
