"Me, 100 percent", Simmons told ESPN's Chris Haynes on Saturday.
The figures are even more impressive when one considers only other five players in the history of the league-Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Magic Johnson, LeBron James and James Harden-have maintained the same average over the course of a season and only Robertson did so in his rookie year. Therefore, taking these moves into account, and the bench units the Sixers had used through the early party of the season, here's an overlook at the numbers of the second unit prior to the streak, and how they appear now.
Lance Stephenson, a former Hornet, had 10 rebounds, 10 assists and eight points for the Pacers, who have won seven of their last nine games.
Have any other rookies caught Simmons's eye?
"It's huge for the team", Simmons said. So, for me, I watch the guys like [Kevin Durant], [LeBron James], [Stephen] Curry, Russell [Westbrook].
"We want to get 52 wins, we want to hold that third spot, that's what I'm most want to do", Brown said.
Though he now owns a respectable .26 defensive Real Plus-Minus, good for 28th best among shooting guards, that's a far cry from Simmons' 1.94 Real Plus-Minus the fourth best of any point guard in the league and he's doing so by covering multiple positions. "You can compare players and whatever it is, but at the same time, everybody is their own player".
Should it be Donovan Mitchell, the high-flying, clutch-shooting Jazz guard who has scored 20.7 points per game this season?
Simmons is averaging 16 points, 8.2 assists and 8.1 rebounds for the 76ers, who are third place in the Eastern Conference. Simmons missed the 2016-17 season with a fractured right foot.
It's hard to argue with Simmons, or his numbers, and when the National Basketball Association postseason awards are unveiled on June 25th, it would be a shock if Simmons isn't honored in some way. Mitchell then replied back to Ingles, "Lmao bro like who cares (three laughing emojis) I'm still stuck on your dunk".
Mitchell's dynamic playmaking ability has been eye-catching on a daily basis and he too has etched his name in the rookie record books this season. It's a two-man race between two very deserving first-year players.
Obviously, Mitchell doesn't share Simmons' views here. If you're a guy coming from overseas, you're still a rookie and you can be 30 years old.
On Friday, Simmons was part of an epic duel with James, whom Simmons considers a mentor. Philadelphia won, overtaking Cleveland for sole possession of the No. 3 seed.
Simmons praises his head coach, Brett Brown, for putting Simmons in the position to succeed.
Brown thought rookie Markelle Fultz was just "OK" after getting almost all the backup minutes at point guard ahead of T.J. McConnell. "You know they give us a lot of enrgy everytime we step into the building so I think that'll be huge".
"Championships", Simmons said. "I want to be the Defensive Player of the Year ... MVP".
