In 1983, April was declared National Child Abuse Prevention Month by a Presidential proclamation.
In thanking those from various organizations attending the event for their efforts to combat child abuse and neglect, Russmann highlighted the ongoing efforts of Bikers Against Child Abuse for that organization's continued strong support.
Judge Frank Skorupa set Janis Beister for sentencing July 23 after the 37-year-old mother of two young girls pleaded no contest to negligent child abuse-no injury stemming from a report of possible abuse and neglect received from a Nebraska Health and Human Services hotline in May 2017.
He said it's easy to get pigeonholed in the circle of one's family and friends and forget to "open our eyes to what's going on around us".

Park hoped the event spreads awareness to those who are unaware of the presence of child abuse in the community. Astonishingly, this brutal form of child abuse is becoming prevalent in the United States. Those are things like being a nurturing parent or mentoring a child or volunteering for a community agency.
"Children grow up in abusive homes and they don't even know that's not normal until they go somewhere else and find out this isn't the way it's supposed to be", Barney said.
