Ottawa answered with a run in the top of the third, however, the Swedes were able to score three in their half of the inning. EMU's Trisha Trujillo pitched a complete game shutout, giving up four hits, walking one Chippewa batter while striking out four.
The Ellsworth Panthers softball team (1-0) 15-runned the New Richmond Tigers in three innings to claim their first 2018 Middle Border Conference win on Thursday, April 12.
Caitlyn Cioni led off with a bloop single and then Hundley laid down a flawless bunt single and went to third on the error which allowed Cioni to give the Lady Panthers a 2-1 lead. After a scoreless fourth, Hope Shedd put the Lady Warriors back ahead 4-2 with a double into left field.
EMU added a run in each of the first two innings, but Akles struck again with another home run, scoring three runs to give the Eagles a commanding 5-0 lead. With Manion standing on second, Mackenzie Larsen roped a RBI single down the left field line and advanced to third on a throwing error from the Jayhawks left fielder.
In the bottom of the second, Erica Davis started it off with a walk and came around to score on a Kaitlin Beasley-Polko wild pitch. Due to a lengthy winter, wet conditions and seemingly never-ceasing snow, MSUM has been unable to play on their home field.
However, SDSU exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

WashU 11, Greenville 3 - Game Two Clapp (3-4) picked up the victory in game two allowing five hits and three runs (two earned) in six innings.
Panagakos, meanwhile, took the loss. The Red Wolves responded in the top of the fifth when Hawkins singled home Tipton then later scored on an error after a base hit by Kyle MacDonald to put A-State on top 2-1.
Against Springfield Wednesday night Watts was one of the top hitters, driving in a run with an RBI double in the third inning. "We did that I think in three consecutive innings where...we had to get more than three outs in an inning and when you do that, it doesn't matter if it's college or high school, they're going to score runs on you and that's what we had". Ball tripled home one run, while Petty tripled home a pair. Ball finished the game three for three with five RBIs and just a single short of hitting for the cycle. Junior varsity action gets underway at 5 p.m. and the varsity contest is set for 7 p.m.
