The first SEGA AGES batch will come out this summer.
While Sonic the Hedgehog is clearly the initial header of the SEGA Ages lineup, it is nice to see that publisher and former console manufacturer is acknowledging some lesser known Genesis titles and even re-releasing some Master System games. Instead, they'll be released digitally through the Switch eShop, with more than 15 different games planned for the first phase of releases (if you could call it a phase).
At this point, there's no word yet on prices or release dates, but Sega did say that those five titles won't be the only classic games going to the Nintendo Switch.
Sega Ages was a series of retro compilations released on the Sega Saturn back in mid-90s.
Sega revealed that a bunch of classic Sega Mega Drive and Sega Master System titles will be released on Nintendo Switch under the Sega Ages label. "Translating the Pokemon featured text we get this in English: "After a lifetime associated with portable consoles, the canonical pokemon will take the leap to a table with its eighth generation. game freak and the pokemon company are rethinking the saga to surprise with new mechanics, either in 2018 or later". "From a selection of home console classics, to a multitude of perfectly-emulated arcade games, Sega Ages gives fans the ability to build their own retro Sega collection unlike any other".
Sega Ages series producer Kagasei Shimomura is quoted as saying that he wants to expand the official lineup past the now confirmed retro games being worked on.
